Regarding your email question, if i were you (and I ain't), I would use a commercial service such as the one listed below. There's lots to choose from.

YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement

If you just leave it on the internut, it will be scraped and abused by others.

By scraping, I mean bots will come along and take you content and republish it elsewhere. This is a given.

So save yourself some frustration and use a commercial service to deliver large files or use postal/courier services along with CD/DVD.

Anything over 1MB I would plan to send by CD/DVD. It's more reliable.

Hi Maria,

Check out using YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement for file delivery, gets around all max file size issues and bouncing emails, a real pain in the butt. I've sent files totalling 170mb using this service and its great.

If you take a photo with say 8 people in it offer to sell all 8 the file at a reduced price per head but insist all must buy, if you don't one will buy and email it around the other 7. It takes a bit of nerve to stand your ground but it pays off in the end.

Hi Dennis,

Commercial services, such as YouSendIt, can easily accomodate 2gb files without difficulty. No FTP required.

Try YouSendIt.com. I believe you can protect files so that they can be received by only the person you choose, and at the very least the data expires after a short while.

for my commercial photo shoots, i grant unlimited use by the client, but make it NON TRANSFERABLE in any medium. Mention copyright law too, in a firm language, not 'please do not...." but ' it is against copyright law to.... if someone else wants to use any image, they must contact myself.'

thanks to all for advice - have tried out the yousendit free version and it seems great! I don't think we will be sending a lot of digital files so it's probably not worth paying for more advanced versions.
thanks for © advice Michael - I like the non transferrable in any medium line.
