Question Mac onsite setup: TEPS or ExpressDigital?

I'm in the startup phase of my event photo biz and am currently trying to decide between TEPS or ExpressDigital Darkroom Pro.

I will be doing onsite portraits and green screen with Shinko 2415s. I don't plan on accepting payment onsite, so won't really use the billing function of either platform.

I'm going to be using Intel-based Mac minis so, at this point, either software package is an option.

Does anyone have any experience with the current versions of both applications and care to share their experience? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Derek

I'd go with Windows. Mac just doesn't have enough support from third party vendors and you will have headaches in the future from manufacturers like Nikon, canon, sony, mitsibushi with new drivers for mac.

I've never used either, but I've used macs and PC's and that has been my experience for the last 7 years.

I don't want to answer about mac vs pc but I would check to make sure that the EXACT equipment you are using is supported directly by either or both software companies.

I know for sure that there are problems with Shinko 2145 and with some new cameras. The software needs the SDK's for all new devices to write directly and some equipment mfgs are months getting these out after the equipment is already in use. Workarounds are NOT acceptable. ie: using the Shinko as a generic printer vs. direct drivers.

ED just released a new version with much improved green screen capabilities as of last week. You can download for free trial. The very few people I have heard about that run both seem to prefer TEPS on site on a mac and ED in studio on a pc. There are only 2 people that I have ever heard of doing it. If you want further info, you should join the users groups and ask there. ED is at ExpressDigital : Digital Photography Solutions Software and Equipment Discussion A decade ago I made the same choice and went with ED because there were a few problems with TEPS that were deal breakers. I have no idea what has changed on TEPS since then.

OOPS - I just noticed your post on ED for the same info. Read the last few weeks of posts and do a search and you'll get a better answer.

Thank you for your replies. I'm leaning towards TEPS as I'd like to avoid booting into Windows (if only for simplicity's sake) if at all possible.

I didn't see that you are so close to me. If you want to see ED in action you can either visit myself, just south of Cambridge or there's a lab in Kitchener who uses it. Let me know. Sorry, can't help on TEPS but there should be users close by.
