Renaming folders???

Does anyone know a fast way to rename folders (100 at a time) from
this:
101Smith
102Jones
103Taylor

to this:
Smith101
Jones102
Taylor103

This is because during a gymnastic meet the easiest way to sort images is by number, All the folders end up in numerical order (easy for us photogs).
After the meet, folks at home need the images displayed on my website by last name, folders end up in alphabetical order (easy for kids and parents to find their images).

You can see an example of this on my website web page
look for the latest galleries lebeled SPOM POI, SPOM POA, SPOM PON.

Thank you in advance,
Chris

Re: Renaming folders???

Hi Christopher,

It would help to know which operating system you are using. Windows? or Mac?

Regards
Nigel

Hi Chris,

Take a look at this bulk rename application, I find it very easy to use and is lighening fast. With this you can not only rename folders but also the files should you choose.

Better still, it is free ware!

Re: Renaming folders???

Maybe not the more elegant, but it works:

for i in *
do
mv $i $(echo $i| perl -pe 's/(\d+)(\w+)/$2$1/')
done

Before:
101Smith 102Jones 103Taylor 111Jack 123Frank 2434Pop 9999999Grow

After:
Frank123 Grow9999999 Jack111 Jones102 Pop2434 Smith101 Taylor103
