software advice needed

Hi,

Does anyone know of any software that will automatically detect files in a directory and copy them across a network to another directory.??

At the moment I link 2 PC's with a cross over cable and share out the folder. The proofs are downloaded using qimage to a folder called proofs and printed to a locally attached printer. They are then moved manually to a folder called printed.

When an order is placed the files are opened in PS one the second PC across the network. Even with the network link running at 100mbs, it's slower to open the files across the link than it is to open them locally. This configuration means that final product production and proof production can happen at the same time. However, if the laptop fails I'm stuffed. I could double download but I don't really want to add extra steps to the work flow if there is a bit of software that can do it for me.

Thanks in advance

Yep...

See Rob's front page article "FTPDroplet II adds folder watching to useful FTP upload utility"...

It's about 3-4 articles down now...

Paul,
I would send you a great link to a great program that has been tried and tested and did exactly what you needed it to do.. if I only had a email to give it to you privately. Email me and I will send it to you.

Bob, how about posting that link for the rest of us. I would like to take a look at such software as I deal with hundreds of files over the network daily. Our printer requires a computer attached directly and all image files are manipulated and prepared on workstations separately. We must manually send the files in bulk to the other machine which often takes 45-90 minutes of transfer time.

How about it?

How 'bout a batch file:

:top
copy \\computer1\directoryA \\computer2\directoryB
goto top

If you want to move the files - replace 'copy' with 'move'

It doesn't 'wait' for files to show up - but continuously happens.

Hope this helps...
Brian.
