Ok, if you have no thoughts regarding the subject, why do you reply ?

Re: New Imaging Tech - Changing - Pro Event Servic

My english is good enough to understand almost all posters' questions and answers, but I can make no sense out of QT3D's postings.

What is the Question?
What is his/her purpose?
What is his/her intent?

This person gave no details about him/herself.

This is the first and last post.

Re: New Imaging Tech - Changing - Pro Event Services

Let me take a stab at what I think might be one answer:

When I started-out as a pro I bumped out a few excellent pros who had trouble making the transition from B&W to color - everyone suddenly wanted color portraits (this is ancient history)

Many pros got bumped by Sears selling 99 cent portraits (or even free portraits)in the '70s

I know lots of good pros who couldn't adapt to computers & digital and went out of business

The point I'm making is that every business goes through changes and it's the people with strength, foresight and 'ability to adapt to change' that survive & prosper from that change. It forces the best of us to step up to the plate and make better images, provide better & faster service. The services my business provides today on a regular basis I could not even have imagined 5 years ago. We also make more profit doing it! Lots of my customers have cameras, computers, software, printers, etc. that are identical to mine - but I know how to use mine, they don't!!

The only thing that doesn't change is change itself. Perhaps QT3D simply needs to look at things in a more agressive & positive way. The one thing that I found over all the years is that the photographers with a great eye for capturing what other's can't, usually win in the end.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm reading poorly organized, pointless ramblings about technological changes in the field of photography, or the teaser for some kind of sales pitch for some astounding pro event service something-or-other that I'm probably not going to give a crap about. And if I'm wasting my time reading and responding to this.

Re: New Imaging Tech - Changing - Pro Event Servic

Thank you for filling in, thought I was trying to communicate in a foreign language.

Let me try to answer some questions about myself.

I am a photographer, with nothing to sell but photos.
Started in the photo business 15 years ago.
Got involved in the development of the Sony Electronic Proofing System 14 years ago.
Built a nice business, upon the unique services I was able to provide with this system.
Bought a Sony 3 x 4 dye sub printer to go with my Sony Maciva 2000 and began my event imaging services. Moved on to Maciva 7000 and the UP-5500 5x7 printers as they became available, and later added 4 viewing stations. Later moved on to the Nikon D1, the D1H and the 8x10 dye sub printers, with 4 viewing stations 2 work stations.

I very much enjoy the process of developing and continue to develop electronic imaging system, bringing together emerging technologies to create new products and services. As soon as a system is stable and productive, I begin working on a new one.

Thought a discussion of how the emerging technologies 2004 will affect our event imaging business would be a great topic for discussion.

Re: New Imaging Tech - Changing - Pro Event Servic

Well Daniel,

I think it shows that your stream-of-conciousness writing style is a bit too opaque for most readers (including me). It's just too hard to figure out what you are asking. Doug probably re-read your posts 4 or 5 times in a genuine effort to unravel your thoughts (Thanks Doug!).

I sense you are attempting to ask a "grand" question in order to provoke conversation. Perhaps you should bring it more into focus; start with something like this: "What technologies do you see changing the character of the Event business?" Although even that question is a bit too vague; perhaps limit it to the next 5 years.

If that kind of question seems to be the distillation of what you wanted to ask, why don't you start a new topic thread and lets hope this one dies forever.

-Chris

p.s. FWIW, I probably won't respond to the "grand" question. It's just not my kind of conversation.
