Event Photography and Apple Mac

Has anyone (especially in the USA) setup an event photography business based around Apple Macintosh platform. I'd like to know what hardware (printer etc), software combinations make for the best setup and workflow. Thanks. JC

Try Triprism.com

They sell Mac-based event photography systems.

I use a G4 tower for printing and 15 inch G3 iMacs for viewing stations. FotoStation and photoshop for printing. Sony Dye Sub SCSI interface for printing.

Good Luck

We use a bunch of mac stuff.. Mostly G4 laptops for printing and viewing stations.. We hook up the laptops to monitors so that our staff can assist the person purchasing the prints.

We use a PG 3500 for a printer..

Regards,
Phil

I have a G4 notebook, it is such a flimsy piece of crap, I would never let customer's use it. Maybe an ibook would be more durable?
At any rate very few event photographers use Mac's because PC's are cheaper.

I'd recommend switching to PC's for this business not only because of price, but because they are generally more compatible with new cameras and printers faster.

Re: Event Photography and Apple Mac

Thanx everyone for your kind advice and help. I'm looking into expanding into Commercial/Corporate/Business Event Photography in the UK and being a Photo-Journalist, I'm a born and breed Apple mac freak. So sorry Rolland, I'm sticking with my Mac (by the way you should check out Apple's new 15" G4 PB, it's one tough mother of a laptop, resist scratches too). Last night, Tricky came round to my place and gave me a demonstration of the Mitsubishi DPS CLICK/CP8000DW Processor/Printer system. It was awesome, quick too! And £4,200 excluding VAT, way too rich for my taste. In the very short term I'm thinking that hooking up to a Canon S9000 BubbleJet Printer, could be the way to go. It's reasonably fast and produces very high quality prints. And that's what I want. High Quaility produced quickly right from the off. Having done some quick research though, facts tells me that in the medium to long term going with MITS 8000DW / CP3020DE printers would really do the business. Does anyone know if Mitsubishi has come up with OS9 and OSX drivers for the CP3020DE....YET? Has for software, it's Iview Pro Media (with Canon File Viewer Utility setup as a "Helper") and Image Buddy for batch printing. Unless that is, somebody knows better. JC

Re: Event Photography and Apple Mac/Update

I just got a e-mail from the good people at Triprism. I liked what I saw on their website and then I got the bad news...$1995! Even in pound sterling that is an awful lot of money. Alas, I must pass go! So the search continues. Are there any other Event (Mac) software developers out-there that can do the business for an awful lot less than 2 grand? JC
