Anyone use Printroom.com?

I'm trying to find a commercial web site to send people to when they want to get some reprints of my work. I don't really do events per se so I don't want to buy a lot of expensive software and do it myself.

I looked around it seems like Printroom.com is my best bet in terms of features. But it is kind of expensive to start up so I don't want to just fork over a couple hundred US without getting some feedback on them first.

I did search the boards and the 3 people who mentioned them said nice things... but I'd like to hear from more than 3 people over the course of one year, if you know what I mean.

Hopefully, I've hit the right place to find people who might have used this service. I didn't have much luck on DPReview where I figured sheer numbers would be in my favor.

You might try dotphoto.com It is easy to use and prints can be ordered up to 12 x 18.
You set the price on what you want to charge. They send you the difference between your cost and what you charge for the prints. They handle all the details of the orders, shipping etc. Quality has been good so far. All you have to do is upload the digital file to an album that you can give your client access to.

I use ezprints.com for my printing. They have a wide variety of print sizes (up to 20x30, plus panoramic sizes) as well as other products like t-shirts and mugs. I've been very pleased with their prints and customer service.

Re: Anyone use Printroom.com?

Hi !
I use www.photoreflect.com
but i print myself, so i do not need to send them the full res file, therefore uploading a whole event is very fast (i have cable-modem)
I also offer digital files for publication / personal use. (lots of my stuff is PJ)

I'm not sure how they work with their own printing (they offer it)

Me too. In fact, I am searching right now because of that. One of the students of one of the skaters I shot at the Olympics wants to buy reprints to give to her coach as a gift. This sort of request comes my way after every event I shoot and it's always onsies & twosies. Not enough to make any money at it but enough that if I printed it all myself and sent them reprints for free, it would add up.

I tried dotPhoto.com. Apparently their upload page doesn't like my browser. I can upload 5 photos at a time but it takes forever (10 takes forever and crashes before it's done). Then, I can't set a different price for each album (as far as I can tell) but only 1 price for all albums. Same with a password -- one for all guests.

Maybe I should just print them myself and charge. I could say they *have* to use PayPal or no dice. That would get around the whole VISA and checks bouncing thing.

I guess I should check out some of those other places too.

Decisions, decisions.

Re: Anyone use Printroom.com?

Marie,

You're right in that you can't set different prices for different albums. I ended up with more than on account. One for family with the standard prices and one for others that I set different prices. I'm sure you could set up more than two if you needed. I haven't had too much trouble uploading although it did stop on a couple of occasions, (over 160mb uploads)

DUH! I can see I'm thinking way too hard about this and not going for the obvious.

I think I'll do that right now... thanks!
