Re: Question of the day..??!!

In my opinion you devalue yourself as a photographer if you do not charge for the CD. He should be willing to pay for good quality photos and as a "businessman " he should respect you and expect to be charged for the CD.

If you want jobs from him continue to take good quality photos and give good customer service. Brian

Question of the day..??!!

I did a hockey tournment over the weekend for a local rink and made a few bucks in the process. One of the parents bought $150 worth of her son which of course I thought was very unusual until I realized who the parent was. Without mentioning names, the mom was the wife of a very well to do businessman. One of their "representatives" called me at home last night to tell me the pictures were great and they were very happy. Then he asked me if I would burn a CD with all the pix from the kids game on it and send it to them. He indicated that they would pay "whatever it took". I estimated about 150 pix of the kid and his team. Apparantly, the "businessman" is really into photography, has a huge setup in his home and loves seeing his kids in action.
Question of the day---Would you charge this guy or do you send him the CD for free hoping he remembers me down the road with a bigger gig? You must take into consideration, money has no meaning to this family, they went for the $150 like you and I would buy a gatorade. I have mixed feelings about this...wife says don't charge and cross your fingers, I say charge and if he liked them before, he will "hire" me later anyway...
OK people...what would you do?
Thanks

Dude...this is easy. Bill him your normal price for the CD. I don't change my price just because some guy has money.

We typically charge $150-175 for CD's (depending on the # of images). Contact him adn let him know that you are available for more work and to keep you posted on upcoming tournaments. events, etc.

I would be tempted at first to not charge, but after thinking about it I think ppphoto is right on.
