Tokina digital lens

I've owned the older Tokina 28-80mm f2.8 ATX series lens and have had no problem with it (other than, it falling out of my truck and breaking in two...)

As the "older ATX" line was both compatible for digital and film cameras, the newer line is more suited for the digital bodies. My question for all, is how does this "newer" line stack up compared to the older one.

If memory serves me correctly, the older ATX line was based off of the old Argenieux lenses...

I would like to buy an "L Series" lens to replace my broken 28-80mm ATX, but finances dictate a less costly replacement...at least for now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Larry

Re: Tokina digital lens

I use an AT-X Pro 12-24 F4 lens often.

I read all the reviews on this lens wherever I could find them. Many point out that the Nikkor version is better by a minor amount but for me the proof is in the use and I don't believe for one second that there's anything in it for the money, the Nikkor being over twice the price new.
I haven't used any other Tokina lens but the build quality and focus speed is fabulous on the one I have.

Re: Tokina digital lens

Have you looked at the Tamron 28-75? I use it on a 5D and love it. Sure, there are some things I'd like changed to make it better but at 1/3 of the price of the Canon comparable lens, I'll deal with those issues especially for the price.
