| Re: Anyone using this lense? I’ve been using that lens as my primary lens on a 1D Mk II for the last 18 months and I love it. I had a friend of my get the same lens for her 20D and she loves it too. I find it to be very sharp even wide open in low light conditions.
The down side is that it does not have fulltime manual/auto focusing – you need to flip a switch to select the mode. It is advisable to avoid manual focusing while in auto focus mode to prevent damage to the internal auto focus gears.
Also: The front element moves in and out so carrying the camera with the lens down can cause the lens to extend.
I have never found these two design differences with the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L USM to be particularly inconvenient.
The Tamron will not stand up to abuse as well as the Canon so you should consider that aspect as well.
Finally, Tamron lens is quite a bit lighter than the Canon. White Balance so easy, even our 5 year old can do it.- Melissa Strickland |
