Re: RAW files from different bodies

Cheeses H Rice you guys, I said that it's subjective! However, you can't judge subjective differences without the objective measures having some commonalities. Sure, it's not likely that someone is going to have the time or resources to produce this comparison, but it seems that the samples of images available lack any sort of scientific method.

I'm just saying that having the most "pure" camera file, (RAW), of the same subject would give me a fair basis to judge. I would take each RAW file to it's best result and then judge. Again, seeing a bunch of JPGs from a bunch of scenes does NOTHING when comparing cameras.

Ooh, I love lively chatter amongst friends!

Peace, Curt

Point is: it wouldn't.

Second point: if you are so deep into this that pixel-peeping on RAW level [greyscale, direct from sensor, no colour information whatsoever] is needed to judge for everyday work, it doesn't matter at all.

The differences 'tween RAW files from current cameras are much smaller than the differences ... oh, I mentioned that already.

Re: RAW files from different bodies

I think if I were to use RAW files as one aspect for comparison of different cameras I'd want to capture those RAW files myself--with all of my own skills, shortcomings, and foibles to see how the equipment works under my "conditions". Having a RAW file captured by someone vastly more talented than myself might skew my expectations, just as examining one captured by someone with less expertise might diminish my judgement of the camera responsible.

Re: RAW files from different bodies

Tim, your comment about seeing how it works under "my conditions" is right on. It would be nice to have the different cameras and do it myself.

Dierk, I thought I was establishing a concise method for judging images from different cameras. I still think that you have to eliminate as many variables between files as possible to make an accurate assessment.
