Hi Larry:

Yes, I know the moire is due to the sharpness and lack of AA filter -- which I love for most photography. But fabrics have been a problem. Can you describe (or link to) the way you use brushes to remove the Moire? Thanks for your help.

Tom

Re: My original post

The only way I can think of - and I don't find it to work very well - is to use the blur tool set to "Color". Usually that doesn't work so well because the pattern is larger than the blur radius built into the tool, and because there is some luminance variation in the moire as well as color variation.

Tom, can you (or anyone) post a crop showing the moire pattern you're seeing? I'm sure I could come up with a method for removing it.

Re: Resolution of film vs digital

Here's a moire removal tutorial that I think I may posted here before. It covers the problem and possible cures quite well.

Great thread...

Love the examples of the stitching...will definitely show these examples to my students.

I just saw the results of a 24x36 printed from my D200 shot as JPEG. This was a bridal shot...and I did NOT see it before it was drop shipped directly to the bride. When I saw it at the wedding...I couldn't believe my eyes! The print came from SmugMug...and it was OUTSTANDING. I was a little worried as I was working off an original JPEG. I tweaked it, got it ready for upload, saved it as max quality, etc. I was a little shocked at how sharp it was. VERY, VERY impressive. I have always thought that 6mp was enough to beat out 100 ISO film any day...but this print was a mind blower!

This is one reason that unless I am shooting nature or a bridal portrait, I rarely even shoot my D200 at full res.

A D200 may not rival medium format...but I have no doubt that it stomps 35mm all day. Not to mention that a couple of weeks ago, I shot a roll of film at a pep rally. 36 exposure disappeared in like 2-3 minutes. I didn't know what had happened! Thought the camera broke!
