Wide angle zooms for Nikon D-200, Tokina?

I'm happy that Bill purchased and is using the Tokina 12-24 lens with good results. I've followed them on e-Bay but most used lenses go for more than a new lens. I'm prepared to buy one new and will follow up with a post on my experiences with the Tokina 12-24.

I have found the Nikkors always superior to the competition. I only buy after market to get something Nikon does not make. i.e. Sigma 300-800.
I have a Nikkor 12-24 but prefer the new 18-200 DX mostly for the range but also lack of distortion. I don't like the fisheye effect on a non fisheye lense. True the build quality is lacking (what do you expect at the ProSumer price) but the glass is superb on the DX 18-200 AFS-VR. This lense was developed with the D200 in mind. They are made for each other.
