Camera cases...

Like many photographer, I have too many bags but none of them seem ideal. I favour backpacks as I like to hike with my gear. I have a LowePro with a camera section in the bottom half but I find it is too small to take a DSLR and a lens above about 100m. I also have a massive LowePro that takes everything including the laptop but if I try and hike with that I have to sit down by the time I've gone 100ft.

I am trying to find a backpack with a good harness that will take a DSLR with a large lens (300mm) plus some other bits that isn't too bulky. It doesn't need to carry a laptop or a second body and I'll only carry 2 lenses (plus one on the body). I suppose it's really the smallest backpack that will carry enough for a days shooting. I've scanned the Lowe Pro and Kata sites and have statistics coming out of my ears - does anyone have any personal recommendations ?

Thanks

Re: Camera cases...

lowepro pro trekker. a large backpack, but small ones (14" tall ones which will suit your needs) have a waist strap that will hit you in the mid stomach. its really about finding a backpack to fit your back. if your are tall the super trekker would be appropriate, just dont fill it. but then again these things do weigh like 10lbs empty.

on a a day to day basis, i use the roadrunner bags from them. suit case wheels on one side, harness on the other. good for everyday commercial photographer work, but the harness isnt as good. great for travel, got it a year and half ago and havent taken my gear out of it.

Re: Camera cases...

Have you looked at Think Tank's Rotation 360 backpack? I think they have a solid trial/return policy. I haven't used it the Rotation 360, but I'm delighted with their Airport Addicted backpack.

Re: Camera cases...

Thanks guys - I guess I just need to go and find somewhere to actually have a look at some of the Lowe Pro range. Super trekker is definitely too large but perhaps something like a Nature Trekker assuming the harness s good enough. The Think Tank stuff looks interesting but they only have a couple of stockists in the UK hence it's quite hard to actually look at it before buying it.

Dave:

If you would like to evaluate a Think Tank product, email them and see if they can accommodate you. I'd be interested to hear what their response is.

Re: Camera cases...

I have too many camera bags also.

I second the suggestion that you evaluate the Think Tank products. The bags are very practical and provide good value. Checkout their website to see which one will best meet your needs. The staff is very helpful on the telephone.
