I've been using a Logitech 3-button mouse for a while, but it's on its way out - it just doesn't track smoothly anymore, and no amount of cleaning the sensor will bring it back, it seems. What kind of mouse do you use? Has anyone tried laser mice? How about a trackball?
Bought my son a Kensington wireless laser mouse not long ago. Specifically, the "PilotMouse" Laser Wireless, model 72242.
Works great on any surface - even a white sheet of paper. I've used it, and it runs nice and smooth, and feels right. Didn't require any drivers whatsoever to install into XP Pro. Just plugged in and worked.
Since it's wireless, it chews through batteries, though. He gets maybe a month out of a set (don't believe what it says on the box; no actual human can remember to turn it off). This is not a problem if you keep sets of rechargeable AA batteries on hand.
The computer interface is handled by a little dongle that resembles a USB memory stick, which plugs into a USB port.
I've used a trackball ever since I discovered them. I never really cottoned to moving my whole hand and arm around when I could just move my fingers and get the same effect. I had a Logitech big marble, but wore it out. I'm now using a Kensington trackball, but it is on the way out. So I am, also, in the market for a new trackball. I really liked the Logitech, but they don't make it anymore. I don't really care for the wireless ones, because for a trackball, it doesn't make sense. It doesn't move, occupies just one place on the desk.
I won't really get serious until my current unit is completely unusable. But I think it won't be long.

I just replaced my worn out Logitech MX Laser with their new MX Revolution. The new one has a bunch of cool features that I'm still trying to get used to (like the ability to highlight any text, then press a small button on the top of the mouse which opens your browser and runs a search in your selected search engine for the highlighted text. Spiffy.) I put a lot of miles on my mice and I think Laser is definitely the way to go.

I use the 5 button scrolling, cordless mouse that came with my Wacom Intuos3 tablet. While I use the stylus for graphic programs, the mouse is great for internet surfing and mail. It works on the tablet area (6x11) and doe not require batteries!

Dennis, have you ever tried the Logitech thumb style trackball's? I used the Trackman Wheel (corded) as shown on the link for years and love it.
No, I haven't. The one I used was like the Trackman Wheel, but the ball was big enough to stick out on both sides so you could turn it with thumb and fingers. The Cordless Trackman Optical would be the closest thing to it, except for being cordless.
