Mike, this doesn't seem to be a site offering batteries, per se. I searched awhile and didn't see any battery deals. Was there something in particular you saw there, or have you bought Canon or Nikon batteries there?

Re: Proprietary vs. After Market

I bought my last bunch from Sterling Tek Digital Camera Batteries Chargers Memory Cards Readers after someone (forgot who) on this forum made the suggestion. The mAh are far higher, meaning way more shooting time. I have used them for over a year and have a pile of both cheapie ebay and Canon originals that are good for less than a hundred shots anymore.

Make sure that you get the proper charger for them as the canon charger will not give you a full charge on the Strerling batteries. Price & service were great. I did get 2 that needed a slight sanding on one side, they were a little tight on the fit. The rep apologized and offered to replace them free, but it was 10 sec. to fix them and I'm happy.

INteresting. I have some sterling tek and use the canon charger...perhaps this is why I don't get substantially more shots. Hmmm.
I also have some ebay cheapies, one arrived 'dead' but i tried it again 6 months later and it started working. One of them has since 'died' whilst my Canon batts keep on working.
I'd imagine there is a QC standard and the best batts get the name brands, the failing ones get ebay's out of hong kong or the like but at $60+ for a canon batt and $10 to $20 for 'generic' batts I'll go generic and take the losses if needed from a few DOA batts.

Doug, do you know if the SterlingTek charger works OK with Canon batteries? I'm not interested having to travel with two chargers!

Re: Proprietary vs. After Market

Andrew: Sorry, I can't answer that question. I'd call Sterling tek to be sure. We have muliple chargers (5) in use here and we try to keep the 2000 mAh seperated.

Chris: that's what Sterling Tek told me and that is probably your problem. We saw (& still do see) a huge difference in lasting power on the 2000 mAh units. They're a whole lot cheaper than the Canons but not as low as ebay. I bought some ebay too and they're long gone.

Doug
