Re: Opinions on Think Tank Gear

I have a Speed Demon waist pack with several additional pouches attached. I wear it full time while covering general assignments (sports, features, etc), carrying two cameras over my shoulders. The waist pack takes a huge load off my shoulder, and makes it much easier for me to change lenses, batteries, and cards while I am working. I am always amazed at how heavy it is when I take it off -- carrying the weight on the hips is much easier.

Two downsides: it's tough to sit/squat/kneel while wearing the pack, and it gets hot and sweaty in the summer heat around here.

The build quality is outstanding, and it's quite obvious that the packs have been designed by and for working photographers. (The pouches are wide enough for the lens hoods, not just the lenses; the flash case holds the external 6-AA battery pack as well as the flash and a Sto-Fen; that sort of attention to detail.)

I use the Airport Antidote when I travel on small planes. It fits in the overhead or under the seat. It provides adequate space with good protection. If I am traveling on a small plane and need to take my 500, I carry it in a Kenesis case. Overall I’m very satisfied with the case. If I really needed more space I could remove the dividers from the case and use wraps to protect each lens and/or body.

Re: Opinions on Think Tank Gear

I have the AA and love it. its my main bag to carry most my gear I need for a day or 2 shoot. I use my Nat. Geo Large pack for day hikes and its great too. The AA is a monster and fits a ton and well designed. I am looking at getting their waist belt system, as I know a few that have it and love it!

Nill, great idea to keep your fly reels safe with your camera gear! Priorities are where they should be.

Re: Opinions on Think Tank Gear

Going to add to the chorus here . . .

I've got both a Speed Freak (or whatever they call the big waist bag) and a belt system, plus the Humongous Bazooka which hold a Gitzo 13 series tripod with pretty much any head you'd want to put on it. One of the best things about the TTP gear is that in addition to being very well thought out the company doesn't nickel and dime you to death. The bags come with very adequate numbers of dividers. The briefcase cames with a shoulder harness and a cable organizer. Almost everything (maybe not the roller bags and the briefcase) comes with a seam sealed raincover. Everything is better than it needs to be.

On top of all of this the prices seem to be fair and the customer service is second to none. The only thing I would change is to sew the name tags on the Cable Management bags onto cloth (because I want to take them off, but don't want the holes in the clear sides of these bags), and a few tweaks to the Bazooka bags -- a business card holder and a little pouch to store small parts.

If the bags match your style and the amount of gear that you need to haul you really can't go wrong. An added plus is that TTP is also a company whose values seem to extend beyond the bottom line.
