Re: Any thoughts on the 'best' monopod to buy?

I recently posted what I suppose might be considered a mini-review of the Feisol 1471, here.

I use this particular monopod as well, and I also give it a strong recommendation.

Re: Any thoughts on the 'best' monopod to buy?

Gitzo G 1558 Gitzopod or the earlier G 558. Have to get one on e-bay, they don't sell them anymore AFAIK.

It twists into a bipod, shoulder pod, true monopod, has a shoulder brace. It has a central knee joint as well as telescoping sections for folding/creating angles. You can even use it as an emergency tripod I've heard, but I've never figured that one out. It folds down to about 14 inches weighs about 2.5 pounds. I am 5 ft 9" as well, and it is just high enough for me.

Gitzo looks like they are coming out with a number of new monopods. Here is their pre-release website Gitzo SA | le choix des professionels

I'd give this a peek.
