DV for still images

Hi Guys.

I want to firstly use the digital still capabilty of DV camera. This is so I can mount the DV unit safely while attaching a lens to the camera. to use as needed.

I have found a guy in australia that makes lens that can attched to a black box(computer and camera) and send images over mobile. The problem is the lens are only 400-500 lines i think. Basically not good enough for a still image.

So i want to use a DV and feed this into the black box, to obtain a still image that i can then print.

Does anyone know of anyone into this in the USA. If so can you pls let me know or point me in the direction of people that can help me .

Thanks.
Pete

Re: DV for still images

Pete IĨm not getting the point about mounting the lens after you mount your "black box" ?? What is the point of this setup anyway?? Shedding a bit of light on your use for this equipment might help in advicing you. Your problem is not the lens resolution, but limitations in the DV system: Even the best 3 ccd DV cameras only resolve app. 550-600 lines as it is, and no sophisticated lens design can help that. My best bet for your setup would not be a black box containg a computer and a camera with exchangeable lens, but a black box containing a Sony DCR TRV 950...if you need to increase the angle of view, you can add a Century 0.5 wide angle adapter. With a SONY/ERICSSON blue tooth enabled mobile phone, you can send images to your website. Whether the still image quality is good enough depends on what your output is for, so get back with more info. IĨll post a still image from the camera for you if you like

Re: DV for still images

I'm looking at mounting a camera on a speed boat.
A digitial still will get destroyed, by all the boucing around.
So if i can mount a lense on a pole and have this attached to the camera/black box which can be sitting in a waterproof shockproof container on the boat.
The system that i have found in australia is only analogue and only gives a 640 x480 res. I thought if i use a DV that i can get a still image that has a res so i can get a decent print. But this needs to be automated to send images out via mobile.
The black box does that but it design is not up to capturing the quality still i need ?

Pete

Re: DV for still images

Pete, I know zilch about the "black box" youīre talking about, but the best DV image you can achieve is not really impressive compared to a still photo digital camera. Anyway, if you choose the SONY DCR TRV 950 (3 X MEGAPIXEL) you will get bluetooth wireless transfer depending on mobile phone coverage where you happen to be. About getting knocked around, you canīt really find anyting as heavy duty as GATES UNDERWATER HOUSINGS Used e.g. by special forces for above water down to 120 metres. You can change front lenses for above water use and also underwater use. This housing is bulletproof and well as waterproof as anything on this planet. Iīm not sure about how bluetooth technology works through the aluminum housing, but contact GATES and they may be able to fill you in.

Re: DV for still images

I have heard somewhere that Sony made the latest Micro Video Camera that is capable of taking 2 megapixels still images while it is primary a digital video camera.
I donīt remember the model number.
Note that it is based on the new MV format and not DV.

Hope I helped
Felipe

Re: DV for still images

Felipe, this is true, but only for storing stills on the memory stick. If you shoot video, you donīt get as much resolution. Exactly how much you get is hard to beat out of SONY/CANON etc. etc. since they donīt seem to agree what the "buffer" in the camera can hold. According to SONY, itīs possible to use 960000 pixels for video, but that is also "boiled down" in the analog/digital conversion to something that looks like mud when you try to blow it up anywhere above 7x10 cmīs. Stills from DV just doesnīt cut it - period. Thereīs also a mini dv camera now with 2 megapixels (for stills) itīs the TRV80
