I tried the Canon raw converter, but I found it very basic and limited unfortunately. I converted the Canon raws to DNG raw in order to use SilkyPix, which I assume will provide native G9 support pretty soon. ACR 4.2 already supports the G9.
I bought my G9 two days ago and I am very happy with the little camera. The only thing that is missing is an acceptably wide angle lens. If it had a 28mm w/a instead of the 35mm I would have been content. However, I will add a Raynox HD-6600 (.66 converter = 23.5mm) and a LensMate 58mm adapter and that will it very suitable for travel photography and to have with me at all times.
I found that the Lowepro D-Pod 50 neoprene belt pouch fits the camera perfectly.
I am really pleased that Canon put back RAW files, upped the resolution to 12 mb and kept the hotshoe. The ISO dial is quick to use and the big 3" LCD view screen is brilliant in all lighting situations. I haven't dug deep into the RAW files yet but I am sure it will live up to my expectations....that is that it will be a supplement to the DSLR kit, not a replacement.
No, this pouch is too slim fitting for that. My thinking was that I would use this pouch for simply fitting the basic G9 and an extra SD card. For days that are more serious photo days I would put the entire G9, adapter and converter kit in a small fanny pack I use for travel.
I know what you are saying though and the LensMate folks say it too, that you will want to keep the adapter on the camera rather than taking it on and off when shooting. Agreed. I don't have the adapter and converter yet so we will see on that score.
No matter what, it will be a lightweight tidy little kit compared to a full-sized DSLR and three lenses.
Is there room in the pouch for an extra battery and an extra card or two? I leave the camera on most of the time, and have found that a battery will last for about half a day with the LCD turned off, hence the need for an extra.
