"carrying the camera about with the viewfinder attached?"
No problem. You mention a Ricoh case. I don't think that they chuck one in with the camera in the UK anyway. I just found one in my cupboard that is full of cases coming from assorted bits of kit over the years.
"Will the camera fit in a pocket?" Yes. Depends on which pocket of course! However I'm always wary of dust in anything other than a shirt pocket so I'd feel happier to have the camera in a thin case.
Look at that little Voigtlander viewfinder in this picture:-

As I think I mentioned earlier I have the Ricoh, but should have bought the small Voigtlander.
RAW.
Yes, correcting bad exposure is one reason for wifely RAW shooting. My wife has no concept as to what the assortment of buttons and nurled rings can do. She, by accident, dialled herself two stops of underexposure and then took masses of jpgs. I managed to get something out of them, but agree I'd have stood far more of a chance with RAW.
Maybe we more experienced photographers 'need' a faster recovery speed than the ten seconds it takes the GRD to write its RAW. I guess the way to find out whether it bothers my wife is to swop the camera to RAW and see if she grumbles she is missing that essential second shot.
For processing the RAW I did experiment with, I think, the free version of Silkypix. I was actually trying to see whether you got better low light results with RAW on the GRD. I did not do a lot of work on it, but came to the conclusion that it made no difference to working with jpgs - and there is an odd quirk that you can go to 1600 with jpgs and only 800 with RAW.
OK?
