Re: between Lumix LX2 or Canon G7?

Conclusions from the article state that both dont perform well above iso200
somepeople may find the canon with its optical viewfinder, larger body and
more logical and intutive control set more appealing whilst the leica
(is the more technically appealing overall, has raw, wide angle zoom, slightly
more pleasing metering and flash exposure results)
I have a panasonic lx1 and have to say that I think its a brilliant little
camera, I rarely use it above 100 iso, there are still some avail at
knockdown prices and are well worth looking at.

Re: between Lumix LX2 or Canon G7?

here's an update (finally). I waited til after the show, just to be sure there were no other choices:
I picked up the lumix LX2 (black). It's pretty, light and small, and I love the 16:9 aspect and large LCD. No flash shoe, which I'm not sure is a deal-breaker or not. I may be able to live with that... But the noise? Whoa!

OK when some people mentioned noise, they really needed to say it in 16-point bold font. Of course, I'm shooting raw, so I'll play with the images in PS, see what I can do. Blue sky looks like it was painted on asphalt. Any recomendations on improving that? Camera settings would be useless for RAW, right? Still, I like the camera itself a lot, but I'm not sure what that says about my work!
And I probably should never compare the images from my Canon 1Ds.
Laurence

Re: between Lumix LX2 or Canon G7?

I am with you Laurence! The noise on these is way over the top... I also have an issue with the way some picture elements have a odd contrast - rather like they are not in the same picture - happens a good bit with bright green leaves with shadowed areas behind them... there is just something "not smooth" about the way contrasting elements sit in the photographs...

Like yourself, I really like everything about the camera except the pictures it takes! I have still not been able to find anyone that has first-hand experience on comparing the Leica version with the Lumix one... I may have to order one from Amazon and warn them up front that I am going to return if the noise is the same or similar... I got my Lumix from them, so maybe they will be understanding... either that or I will have to make something up!

Thanks for the update and let me know if you happen to find a true solution to the noise issues with the Lumix... I mean a shot in bright daylight - at ISO 100 is not even close to noise free... what a shame!

If I find out anything else (or brave the Leica test!) I will report back in...

Donald

Re: between Lumix LX2 or Canon G7?

I believe in RAW images, the noise (the picture, in fact) is the same, Leica or Panasonic. No proof, but that's what I get. I'm considering the Canon G7, but don't know if it's better regarding noise. I do like the 'carry-ability' of the Panasonic/Leica though. Has anyone worked up a good noise-reducing system for raw images in PS?
