Olympus 5060 and Hitachi Microdrive

Hi there, has anyone out there tried using a Hitachi microdrive in the 5060? Specifically the 4 Gig model. I am taking a trip in March and I cannot decipher either the Olympus site nor the Hitachi site to determine whether this combo will work. Also, how is the shutter lag on the 5060 in the field? I do not own one yet but if I can-(a) be happy with the shutter lag (or lack thereof--I was poised to buy a Nikon 8400 but the lag time is terrible, the 5060 is more reasonably priced and seems to meet my needs); and (b) fit a microdrive in there, it sounds like the camera for me. The Hitachi site says it needs to be 3K4-2 or 3K4-4, and compatible with the FAT-32 file system, and whatever that means is beyond me, I just want to know if it will work. (I already have procured the Microdrive, hence the concern).
thanks,
Roger

Re: Olympus 5060 and Hitachi Microdrive

Hi Roger,

I would stay clear of any of the microdrives. They're fine for studio type surroundings where they won't get knocked. They are just not suitable for any sort of travelling. As tempting as the prices are, its best to stear clear of them and use solid state.

Re: Olympus 5060 and Hitachi Microdrive

Actually, Microdrives today have much better anti-shock capabilities than in the old days, and i recently found out through Steve's Digicams that they use microdrives in MP3 players, which are very tough when it comes to breaking. According to Hitachi's sales rep, they have come along on durability.
Anybody at all ever use one? or a 5060 Olympus? How is the shutter lag on this camera?
thanks,
roger
