Olympus c 5050z and c 5060\'s

Wondering if anybody saw the short story in the current edition of American Photo on Magnum photographer Alex Majoli and his extensively use of Olympus c5050Z, and C5060 cameras?
I've been looking for a cheap p&s camera, and am thinking about picking up a used c5050z. Heck, if it's good enough for Alex Majoli, it's probably good enough for me.
The c5050z comes with a 35-105 zoom. And I'm thinking of buying one of Olympus' wide angle attachments. The wcon-7 to be exact.
Anybody ever use one of these? and can you tell me how they affect image quality?
Thanks.

Re: Olympus c 5050z and c 5060\'s

Hi Ron,
Altho' I can't give specific information about the wide-angle adapter, I can say that I've used earlier Olympus adapters & found them to give only marginal image degradation (ie. they're very good).
I have been using the c5050Z since it first came available and have enjoyed using it....and before it - the c3030Z & c2000Z. These days I use it for personal images (my carry-around camera) and as back-up to my Canon DSLR's. It can be a little frustrating with it's slow focus & slow data writing....but by pre-focussing or using manual focus, it can help. the images aren't as smooth as those from the Canon's...but I've never had a client complain about grain with film, or noise on digital files!

On some occasions the silent shutter of the Olympus is a godsend & altho' the viewfinder isn't 100% accurate it feels good to use it, instead of holding it out like a video camera & using the monitor (depends on the type of shooting you're doing).
I wish the c5050Z was Pictbridge-enabled for printing directly to my little portable printer.....& that the images were a little less noisy. You may want to compare these things on the C5060 (the wider lens may be worth paying for also...).

If you get familiar with the 5050, always have it with you & shoot lots, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
