Nikon 8800VR

Has anyone read about the new Nikon 8800 8MP VR 10X zoom on the Nikon web?
I have been looking at it as a carry camera and with the right attachment I can use it on my telescope. It also offers an extender that allows up to 600mm with VR. I am trying to find out if picture composing can be done through the LCD screen for telescope use? Seems like a nice set up.
I think it comes out this fall.

Re: Nikon 8800VR

Dpreview had a preview about a month ago. Do not know how good focusing is in manual(?) through LCD. Panasonic has done MF right, about the best I have seen in that department for digicams.
I think we should know more closer to the holiday seasons.

Re: Nikon 8800VR

Hi Lou,

First of all, thanks for your e-mail. I will reply soon.
About the 8800, I bought one two weeks ago as a replacement for a Olympus C2500 (2,5 MP) which I use for macro pictures.
As I am used to the Nikons D1/D2, I don't like the slow autofocusing but the results are not so bad.
I am still discovering all options and as I have some experience with the 8700, I hope to solve the problem with the autofocus as I did with the 8700.
If you know anything about a convertor for a telescope, please tell me.

Best regards
Marco

Re: Nikon 8800VR

Marco, Here you go I suggest you try scopetronix first. They seem to have everything needed for telescopes and cameras to adapt to them. I have dealt with all three and all are very good. In scopetronics just follw the wizard and it will take you to the camera you want. The 8800 is not there yet but the 8700 is. My scope takes a 1.25 eye piece so there are many options.

Re: Nikon 8800VR

Hi Lou,

Thanks for the links.
I will check them and hope they have something for me within a few weeks/months.
I know the 8800 as a different size compare to the 8700.

Best Regards
Marco
