Re: Pro 1 samples

I have now had time to try the 400 ASA setting on my Pro 1.

I wonder about all the earlier fuss about noise.

My, admittedly limited, tests show that it is no worse than I was getting with 400ASA Kodak negative film. And, I continue to remain of the thought that 400ASA digital *is* faster than 400ASA film. I think the latter is because you can dig more out of digital shadows.

I have experimented with colour and I have also converted some shots to black and white.

For anyone like me with Picture Window I also remain convinced that USM is better for black and white than Jonathan's Advanced Sharpen facility. Nobody on the PW forum will agree with me, but I stick to my guns.

Add to the above the point made earlier about the increased DOF when compared with a digital camera with a larger chip and you have greater flexibility with your Pro 1 in low light.

Don't rule out the Pro 1 'cause you read it was noisy at ASA higher than 100. Take a CF card of your own into a dealer. Try a few shots and look at them at home. I wager that you will be pleasantly surprised.

Ramon,

Lovely shots - again.

Did you spot that as from yesterday BreezeBrowser supports our Pro 1 ?

Much more versatile.

Re: 7 more full size samples

Thanks, Tony. I have tried BreezeBrowser 2.10 and, yes, is more versatile than ZoomBrowser, but the conversion quality is exactly the same. I like very much the BreezeBrowser proof tool. I use CaptureOne with my 10D RAW archives, the interface is the best of all the RAW conversion programs (just my opinion) and it's a pity that cannot be used with the Pro1.

Re: 7 more full size samples

I agree about the C1 interface, it also has the best sharpening and NR in my book, my guess is that it`d make the Pro-1 literally walk on water!.

Mine hopefully arrives tomorrow (I`m yet another Commercial 1DS user) so will put it through it`s paces, i`ve downloaded the ACR update for CS which now supports the camera and of course luckily isn`t based on the canon SDK, anyone else use the Adobe converter with the Pro-1 ? .

This little camera should come in very handy for webshop work too due to the deep DOF, I have to crank the aperture right down with the 1DS and you know what that means - loadsa cloning of the sensor muck so I usually end up using the old D60 for that at the moment as it attracts less dust and allows wider apertures for the same DOF due to the FOV crop - the 1DS does the rest of my work just fine, I`m sure the Pro-1 will fit in just fine, even as a "coat pocket backup" in an emergency so long as I don`t have to stray from ISO50

I've found the Pro1 makes a fine travel camera, with superb image quality in RAW - that is if the subject isn't moving, at which time it's real problems start - the viewfinder blackout & slowness of focusing are such a shame, they spoil an otherwise great little cam.

I have found ACR to be by far the best conversion tool for the Pro1 as it doesn't use the Canon SDK.

Re: 7 more full size samples

Just a note to all Pro 1 users to draw your attention to the new firmware.

http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/pspro1/firmware-e.html

I loaded it last night and I think it makes the camera focus more easily.

Yes, the zoom is better, but that was never a worry for me.

It's a shame there is not a more effective way of being alerted to firmware releases. I found this accidentally when looking at DPReview for something totally different.
