Re: Pro 1 samples

I meant the S1 IS is BETTER in hand-holdability than the Pro1, if that's a real word ...

Re: Pro 1 samples

hi Shaum,
the 3.2MP is quite tight since it is a full color newspaper, but i would blink on that. I’ve already have powershot a70, and quite please pleased with it. the thing with IS is superb, that’s why I am still considering Minolta A2-A1 as a camera. but 35mm or 38mm is tight for me rally, i need a wide angle of at least 28 as moderate but OK solution. that’s why canon S1 IS is out, but i have looked at him, and i like those really little cams. Panasonic lumix FZ-10 is 35-4200mm 4MP image stabilized super camera at almost the same price.
thank you for the answer,
milutin

Re: Pro 1 samples

http://www.rlk.com/images/sjcamera/SJcamera.jpg

The above image was shot using a Pro 1 during a camera test in a camera store to check out how well the camera would function in a candid, low-light, mixed lighting environment. I wanted to see how good things would look if the lens was at its widest angle setting (7.2 mm), wide open (f 2.4) and manually focused to about 5 feet -- which would provide a depth of field from about 3.5 feet to infinity. I also set the ASA to the slowest, best quality speed of 50 and shot in RAW, and in manual mode, so the camera didn't have to either calculate exposure or focus. With all the extra electronics turned off, the Pro 1 would go "click" (I turned off that noise, too!) within about 1/10th of a second. I decided to take advantage of the small sensor size which provides an advantage over the larger sensors, such as in my Canon 1D, when using an equivalent 28mm lens. To get the same depth of field result with my 1D and 28mm lens, I'd need to stop down to f 11 - 16 and then bump the speed up to ASA 800 - 1,600. If news or street "candids" are your thing, the Pro 1 just might be the hot ticket. Also, the S 1 doesn't gain much from image stabilization at wide angle, and gives up a lot in terms of resolution, lens quality, lack of RAW, color space, etc. However, the S1 cost a lot less than the Pro 1.

Re: Pro 1 samples

Thanks all for this thread. I have learned a lot and enough to perhaps give the Pro 1 a serious look when I take up travel photography fulltime in a year or so. Perhaps by then the initial growing pains bedevilling the Pro 1 may be remedied in the next version...Pro II?

Ramon...you have waaaaay too much gear. Though I must admit, I have owned about the equivalent over a long career. I am now down to one 1Ds and a bag full of lenses and looking for that lightweight backup.

Cheers to all,
JL

Re: Pro 1 samples

Thanks Richard,

The camera shops are better lit in San Jose than over here in London!!

I guess we are still frightened of fogging the glass plates.

Having said that my wife did ask me if she might have let some light into her Ixux V3 when she was a bit hasty at removing the CF card last week !!
