Nikon Coolpix Upgrade

Has anyone heard any rumors that Nikon may be considering an upgrade of the Coolpix 990 as a result of its experience with the D1X/D1H models. This would be a great alternative to the D1X and D1H cameras and much less costly.

Haven't heard that, but the did announce a Coolpix 6000 with 13 point something megapixels recently. The game continues.

Nikon Compacts become more and more advanced, say, P90, I read reviews, but did anyone use it?

It would be better to say "previews", as the camera is new. very briefly they put it, for instance, at Nikon P90 Review - Digital Camera Reviews - Photoxels, some notes on performance; though respectable resources haven't reviewed it yet) and it's already in stock.
