Nikon 990 vs. Polaroid back

Hello all.
I am possibly looking in one of two items. A Nikon 990 or a polaroid back for my film camera. I have heard of guys using the 990 like a polaroid but my question boils down to the exposure. If the 990 said 1/500@f4, would that be the same for my F3 or Canon A2?
Also does the 990 have a sync cord plug in?
Any input on this is appreciated. Thanks.
Aaron

The Nikon 990 has a special cord receptical for the sync for use with the SB28dx flash. Before you commit to Nikon, look at the Canon G-1. It has a dedicated hot shoe for Canon EX flashes and its exposure system is comparable with the Canon A2 (although it ISO range is only 50-400). I've worked with both extensively at work and I'm saving my money to get the G-1.:cool

Re: Nikon 990 vs. Polaroid back

Hi Aaron. As Marc points out, the 950/990 feature a connector for an external SB-series strobe, but can be adapted with some jury-rigging for use with any strobe that connects via a PC outlet (ie studio strobes). See:
http://www.nikon-euro.com/nikoneuro_...e900_en_12.htm

For more information.

Whether exposures from your film cameras and a camera like the 990 are a good match will be easy enough to test, simply by bracketing exposures on both film and digital, then comparing frame for frame after the fact.

And the G1 definitely makes this easier by including a hot shoe as Marc mentions.

The G-1 also give you a much wider range of aperture / speed (in 1/2 stops) than the CoolPix plus the Hot Shoe
the LCD is pretty accurate (better than my D-1 LCD)and you can tweak the file contrast and saturation (but i'm not sure if it affect the LCD preview image)
In the past i used the Sony DSC D700 (SLR, 1,5 MP, full manual control)
wich had a very big LCD that you could adjust precisely . I was very accurate and for ``Polaroid only`` you don't need much resolution

Re: Nikon 990 vs. Polaroid back

Does anyone know where I can purchase the AS-E900 adapter that Rob referenced in regards to connecting to studio strobes? B & H and Adoramam don't carry it.

Thanks,
Travis
