E-10 experience report

I just wanted to ask Rob to open such a forum and here it is.

For the E-10 look at my experience report:

and also the digital SLRs compared page might be useful

Re: E-10 experience report

I have been using the Olympus E-10 to shoot NHL hockey shots of the Minnesota Wild team for their Web site. You can see samples of those here: http://www.pixelagogo.com/wildwebimages/index.htm

I also have put together a site on the E-10 under studio conditions for other commercial shooting here: http://www.pixelagogo.com/e10/e10home.html

Re: E-10 experience report

Has anyone used the E-10 in the RAW mode? I've been using the D-1 with Bibble and I'm addicted to RAW and want the power with every camera, work or pleasure.

Re: E-10 experience report

With the D1 I only use NEFs and with the D30 I used CRW. Here is why I did not try RAW on the E-10 (from my review):

Normally we only use the raw format for all cameras and the E-10 also provides a 10-bit/color raw file format.
But the file size is then 7.6MB and it takes a long time to write the file to the card. So with the E-10 we will mostly
use the SHQ JPG format (2240x1680 pixels and 1:2.7 compression ratio). We also leave the sharpening in the
camera set to "normal" as the E-10 delivers very sharp photos.

Re: E-10 experience report

Ustein read your review and I understand that it takes longer for cameras to write RAW files. I just want the control of having a "digital negative" and want to know what corrections are available with the Olympus software. Exposure, white-balance, curves. . .

Re: E-10 experience report

I tried the raw format just for a test:

1. If you open in Camedia Master you get only 8 bit files out (no curves, no WB)

2. If you use the RAW plug-in you have very crude WB, extremly slow (D1 is not fast, D30 is slow and E-10 is even much slower), no exposure correction.

The camera and software is not for a practical use of RAW. But this could be changed by firmware and desktop software.
