emailers... your experiences with your company

for those of you who use emailer programs to advertise yourself, what does your backside reporting show (who opened it, clicked links in it). i am using a local product that seems to be good, but only get about 15% opens, they claim it is only an estimate, more could have opened it...is that number low or great...am i being taken. its really annoying to send to 1000 people and only have 150 even open it (And of those i dont know who liked it etc, they could open it just to delete it).
