| Re: Charge for renting antique gas pumps That looks to be quite a can of worms. The original pumps are irreplaceable antiques, and it's hard to put a value on them. Maybe he should consider making some replicas and renting those.
How would one account for the wear and tear of rental use for an object like this?
I take it you do your shoots on your friends site. I'm assuming that a rental would require removing the pumps from the site. If they were my pumps, I'd really be leary of that. If there's enough room, perhaps he could consider letting people set up location shoots around the pumps on site. Then you could come up with reasonable site rental rates.
Maybe someone with more experience at this than I will have a better idea. I would think movie companies probably do rentals of this nature, so perhaps Google for agencies around Hollywood who would rent equipment such as this, i.e., antique autos and equipment, etc. Also, the Harrah museum in Sparks/Reno has equipment such as this and might have a handle on it. The Ken Bering museum in San Ramon, CA., also has equipment such as this. They must have been approached before about using their equipment, I would think.
