Re: shooting shoes

I've never worked with ladies' shoes but I have had to perform similar illusions with strap-like things. Generally if the strap has some degree of body to it (i.e. it's solid enough to support part of its weight) you can run a stiff wire along the inner part that the camera doesn't see. Electrical wire (the kind used for in-wall house circuits, not lamp cord) is perfect and can be had cheaply from hardware stores. You may have to create a whole little frame that runs from the strap into a hidden portion of the shoe to establish support.

I'm sure there are other tricks used by folks who shoot for catalogs.

I do like Ken, we shoot loads of shoes. Fishing line suspended from above to keep the affair lifted and at the right angle helps and is sometimes all that is needed, easily cloned out after

Don't forget gravity

You don't have to place the shoes in their "normal" orientation.

Re: shooting shoes

Hi Keith:

I have also been shooting ladies shoes for a long time.

What we do is suspend the laces already set up as if they were been worn.
To do that, we use instant glue to keep the laces in place and then we run an horizontal rod below our main light ( big soft box for zenithal lighting).

Suspended from that rod with red sewing thread ( so that we can see it clearly for Photoshop retouching) the whole structure stays in place and can be properly photographed.

Hope this helps
