Re: Smoke/Fog Generator

Waleed, you can also use an insect fogger, but don't use the pesticide oil use regular smoke machine oil available at the set supply house's

Re: Smoke/Fog Generator

Thanks everybody... I will definitely try your suggestions..

I was thinking of a cigar + straw + food wrapping sheets. We cover the food, insert the straw from on edge, smoke some inside using a cigar, then gently remove the food wrapper and take the shot..

Thanks again,
Waleed

Re: Smoke/Fog Generator

Just wanted to remind everyone that smoke, steam and fog are different things and each one has a slightly different look. It's easy to confuse the looks; I do it myself. Waleed's original question had to do with recreating the look of steam from hot food.

The best thing is to look at the actual hot items and ask what makes it look hot? How does steam differ from smoke, how does smoke differ from fog. Try out the various products mentioned (most are fairly inexpensive) and always follow safety precautions.

Re: Smoke/Fog Generator

I've seen food stylists use tampons (the small kind), soaked in water, nuked in the microwave. Place it behind the object (say a cup of coffee) being photographed. Looks very realistic. I kid you not. A dark background helps.
