How Good Are Your Eyes

Here's an interesting little test for those who want to give their eyes a workout: http://www.xrite. com/custom_ page.aspx? PageID=77

I scored a four rating. Lower values are better. Several people got a perfect score of 0. I had some difficulty (or lack of patience) to split hairs with the various hues.

Managed to get zero, but as noted it does take quite a bit of patience in moving tiles back and forth. As such, I'd make sure you've got a bit of time to do the test as you'll score lower than you're capable of if you rush it.

Re: How Good Are Your Eyes

I did that test at 9:00 this morning on my MacBook Pro and scored 42. I figured that the monitor might not be accurate enough, so I waited until 4:00 this afternoon, and did the same test on my desktop iMac G5, where I scored a 16. Both monitors are colour calibrated, but months past their repeat dates.

I figure this test has a lot to do with the quality of the monitor.

Re: How Good Are Your Eyes

This is where I'd love to be able to say the dog ate my homework and decided to live with another family...but alas, I got a 66.

This doesn't seem odd for me as I had to do a similar test for my eye doctor and was very frustrated at matching some of the hues similar to the test. When I mentioned this to her she simply replied, it's your BP medication. It's normal to not be able to distinguish subtle changes because of the med you are on.

Anyone else ever had that mentioned to them before? Or was she just being kind.

Jeff, if you Google blood pressure medication color vision you will find several links. It appears that several medications covering a wide range of ailments affect color vision.

Re: How Good Are Your Eyes

Thanks Kevin,

I knew it was the reason when I took this online test. It makes it difficult when looking at subtle hue changes in photographs.

It also makes my wife laugh when I bring home a new pair of light tan colored pants. Which I think are a color I don't have and she points to the other 9 pair exactly the same!
