Sony Artisan Calibration Error, looking for Help

I have a Artisan, which has developed the "too much light in the room" error when I start the calibration.

I have downloaded Karl Lang's 1.3.9 fix but when I start the calibration process, I get a communication error and the process won't start. If I put my old calibration script back in the folder, I don't get the communication error and the process starts but I get the too much light error.

In the past I have gotten around this only because I moved the Sony Artisian to a different physical machine. When you do this all the errors seem to go away and you can start up fresh.

My questions,

1. Does anyone have Karl's patch 1.3.9 artisan patch working in XP? If so is there anyway you could email me that script file? I would greatly appreciate it.

2. Does anyone know of a way to get all of the current Sony Artisan software out of an installed XP machine? I ask this as I could possibly get everything out of the machine and try a fresh install.

3. Any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate.

Paul Caldwell

I don't know about the Artisan specifically, but if you feel comfortable using regedit, I'd search for "Sony" and "Artisan" in the registry. Many applications store their settings under HKLM\Software\ManufacturerName...

Carving things out of the registry always runs the risk that you could destabilize your machine, so if you aren't sure of what you're doing you should probably not take this path.

Re: Sony Artisan Calibration Error, looking for Help

Hello Noel,

No issues with Regedit, but I wasn't able to locate anything with a search. I know that the files are buried in there somewhere but can't find them.

It's sad, since the monitor is fine. And if I put in an new machine where the Artisan software was never installed, it will work fine, for a while then get the same problem. My hope was that the 1.3.9 patch would work, no go.

You can never really get a program totally uninstalled in XP in my experience, it always leaves hooks.

Thanks
Paul

That's probably because the process of installing software in Windows has always been partly a matter of adding application files and partly a matter of modifying the operating system. Just look at how much trouble User Account Control is causing users in Vista.

Also, it's not easy to get the Microsoft Installer to work just right to deploy one's application.
