It's possible a bug has gotten in there, or maybe a conductive piece of dust. If it falls in the right place it could be arcing. Yes, the voltages are that high.

I'd sure take a look at that 30" Dell 3008WFP if I were going to be upgrading right now. I can't say enough good things about the Dell 2001FPs I've been running since about 2004. Even the 3007WFP-HC, which is now quite a bargain, has gotten great reviews.
