Monitor problem

I've been using a 5 year old Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2060u CRT monitor, and it has been a good friend. I recently got a new color management system with my HP Z3100pc printer, and now have the most accurate monitor calibration /profile I have ever had.

However, I when most of the screen is white, especially when black text is displayed, as in email or a Word file, I noticed that the left side of some text appears red. This happens more on the left side of the screen.

I tried adjusting convergence manually as well as returning it to the factory preset, but this had no effect on correcting the problem. Neither did degaussing, which I did several times. I cannot think of any other control to try.

Does anybody recognize what might be causing the problem?

Chances are good that your venerable monitor is losing its ability to converge. This is one of the ways CRTs degenerate; it's simply wearing out.
