Colour management hell....

Ok I need some help. Historically I've been ok at Colour management but I'm having problems now.

The set up

Shoot D200 in Adobe RGB
Run Aperture and CS3 on an Imac
Print on a R2400 with a Lyson CIS

I profile the monitor with Colourvision Spyder2Pro and I profile my printer/ink/paper with Colourvision Printfix Pro

However, the prints don't match the screen and tend to come out too saturated. Initially I thought it might be down to lighting conditions when I profiled the monitor and/or viewed prints but I have also noticed that when I view the images on Aperture and I view them in CS3 they also look different from each other. This doesn't matter whether I have onscreen proofing off in both pieces of software or use the same profile for viewing.

Has anyone got any bright ideas what I might try next ?

Thanks

Dave

Re: Colour management hell....

My guess is the Lyson CIS.

I know this is a basic question, but do you have color management turned off in the printer driver?

Yes - it's turned off. I can't see how it can be the Lyson CIS if I am profiling test prints with a spectrometer ?

If you were using a true Spectrophotometer which you're not. Other users working with non standard, expected ink sets have had issues with this product. I'd ping Color Vision about their instrument (which they call a made up term, a spectrocolormeter).

Re: Colour management hell....

Thanks - I'll drop them a line. Any ideas why Aperture and CS3 should display pictures differently (regardless of whether I use on-screen proofing or not)

They should be close at 100% or better (always compare previews in multiple applications at 100% or greater). I suspect they are using different math but again, they should be pretty close IF the images are tagged. The on screen proofing in Aperture is goofy too, I don't trust it, at least in how it works with output profiles.

You might need to change the CMM to ColorSync in CS3's color setting too although ACE works better. That might account for minor differences.
