Calibrate Samsung 215TW ?

I am contemplating a new monitor, Samsung 215TW. They are available in my price range. Will be used with ps cs2 for photo editing plus all the other things I do on the pc.

My question is, does anyone have experience using and calibrating this monitor with the GM i1 display2 calibration system.

The GM unit works well with my 19" Sony LCD #SDM-HS94P. Good monitor except I am getting backlight leaks at the edges now, and it is out of warranty.

thanks,

harvey

Re: Calibrate Samsung 215TW ?

I have the 215TW and it calibrated quite easy. I have the GM Eye-One system using the Eye-One Match software. I also have the older 213T monitor, which I have had for a couple of years. Both monitors calibrate easy with the GM systems. If you have used the Display 2 in the past and have been happy with the results, you should have no problems using it on the Samsung 215TW.

Re: Calibrate Samsung 215TW ?

Thanks Gregg.

I sometimes tiptoe around before making a major purchase.

The 215TW looks very versatile to me, just want to be sure I can reasonably calibrate it.

Looks like it is even capable of HDTV while I am doing something else on it.

Re: Calibrate Samsung 215TW ?

The main thing to look for in a calibration bundle for your LCD is LUT based profiling. Matrix based profiles are fine for CRT monitors but for LCDs you want to use the more advanced method. 3D gamut compression is another desirable feature. I know the Monaco X-Rite Pro software allows for building LUT based profiles with 3D gamut compression. You would have to check with GM to find out if their software includes these features.

I have 3 samsung monitors and I wouldn't change anything. They are the most color accurate I've ever seen. Just love them.

Re: Calibrate Samsung 215TW ?

As a follow up on this, I received the Samsung 215TW, calibrated it with the GM i1 display2 calibration system and all went smooth.

Excellent monitor so far.

Thumbs up Re: Calibrate Samsung 215TW ?

Added impressions

I processed several prints for printing by MPIX. Used their ICC profile for soft proofing while processing.

Recieved the prints and compared them to display on the i1 calibrated 215TW monitor, and I am extremely satisfied. Prints are as close to the soft proof vision as I can detect by my eye using an OTT lite for illuminating the prints. Processing done with ACR/CS2.
