Transfer display ICC profile to another computer?

Can I take a display calibration profile built on one computer, copy it to another, then connect the monitor to the second machine and get the same calibrated result? Seems possible in theory, but is there some weird thing I'm not thinking of?

No. When you calibrate/profile a monitor, the graphic card is very much a part of the process. Since the second computer will not be using the exact same graphic card, the profile will not work properly.

Since LUTs are all the same on graphics cards I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work as long as the profile used is connected to the display the profile was built from.

You can always give it try and see if the display retains the intended calibrated look and tagged files in Photoshop look the same as when the display was connected to the other system from where the profile was built on.

Hi,

The part of the graphics card which ahs the most significant effect is the RAMDAC, this converts the digital rendered image into an analog signal which most monitors use.

However Modern DVI LCD monitors dont do this digital to analog conversion and go straight to the LCD as a digital signal.

If this is the case then you may be in with a chance.

Otherwise you will need to re-profile unless the graphics card is being moved too
