Re: Xrite has merged with GMB

First off XRite has made an offer to buy a certain number of shares which of course has to go before the SEC.
Now what could happen if it does go through is combining the two specialists will benefit the user base in both hardware and software. GMB have a ton of patents and Xrite a fair number too. Rather than fighting to come up with new methodology they can use the immense time in R&D to comble the barriers without fighting the upstream current. Better products with more features and a timely delay as the combined resources are much more powerful.
As far as graphic arts go there will maybe be less advantage to have the two together but we'll have to see. In other areas the same as my first statement is true, things like ink formulation, paint, medical> both have some very diverse applications that when brought together will surely offer a better world for the end users.
I'd like to think that the reasons behind the works of the both Monaco and GMB (Logo) are and always have been towards altruistic. I've met them and you'll only hear about fantastic adventures into the realm of colour, never about marketing or financial issues.
The management also talk more about problems of legality and cross overs into patent laws etc so there should be a lot of good to come from this for everyone involved except the few that will be redundant.
I was happy when Monaco joined XRite, and am happy now that there should be a union of two of the best colour IT companies giving us better tools. I'm not afraid of the merger giving or forming a monopoly as Colorvision offers a different line for products that there is room for everyone, and even more so that there be one less house name in the ranks>maybe a little less confusion.
An exciting year in colour me thinks.
