Re: What is your experience with the Canon 7D?

My 7D has provided me with excellent results. I am very happy with the autofocus, big improvement over my 50D. It is much more complicated to use because of all the AF options you have. But after using it for a while you will be impressed with ability to gain and hold AF on moving objects. The AF also works much better in low light levels.Image quality is also improved at any given iso level. The veiw finder is great particularly if you wear glasses. Too many new plus features to mention them all.

Re: What is your experience with the Canon 7D?

So far I'm thrilled. My 40D was an excellent camera for BIFs. I participated in a bald eagle workshop early this year in Alaska and I captured so many excellent in-flight shots that I had a hard time culling the best. I used center point only AI focusing. I got excellent results even against busy backgrounds. I've just started using the 7D around my house. There haven't been many opportunities for BIFs - just a bunch of crows. So I went after the occasional hummingbird. So far I'm concentrating on center point extended AI and the results are great. Here's an example with a busy background. The camera had a little trouble deciding what to lock onto, but once it did it kept lock nicely. This picture is a tiny crop (about 5%) of the original, also shown. 100-400L @ 400 handheld, f8, 1/1000, ISO 800, RAW processed in LR 2.5 no corrections except cropping. No problem with shooting RAW at 8 fps and it's great having all those extra MP for really tight cropping.

Re: What is your experience with the Canon 7D?

It looks like some are experiencing positive results with the 7D AF.

Jerry referenced Rob Galbraith's Beta review of the 7D:
"Based on our esperience with the new camera's AF system so far, it's likely that focus on static subjects is going to be solid. We'll need to give the camera more of a continuous focus workout than this, however, to see if it will be right for peek action sports."

Also I posted a question on: Bob Atkins - Digital Photography - Camera Reviews - Lens Tests - Canon EOS FAQ - Nature - Wildlife - Gallery

The post is located in the EOS forum. Bob is testing the 7D for publication, but in his response to my post he has provided some comparisons to the 40D.

Re: What is your experience with the Canon 7D?

Digital Photography Review posted an in-depth review of the 7D at

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos7d/

Overall, they rate the camera as highly recommended. The review concludes that the Nikon D300 and Canon 7D are very similar and that personal taste and lens collection are the deciding purchase factors.
