I did. Thanks for the link. I check into LL once a week. They have a different slant that is not to my personal taste a lot of times. Boils down to this "I use my camera as a tool to make a living"
First of all, I wouldn't look seriously at any camera until someone I know and respect owns one and says it's way better than the previous model. Second, I just got a 50D five months ago and the 40's are still working great. So, I have no need unless I sell a 40D or 50D which will make sense once the prices come down a bit. Is it worth it though?
The review really scratched the surface. I want to see some concrete trials to see if the focus system really is that much better at high speed objects and low light. I want to see performance comparisons with real portraits at high ISO settings. One common complaint is that most of us can make great high ISO pics under good conditions but it's disaster with very bad lighting - which is why we needed the high ISO. Night HS football with a poorly lit stadium is a perfect chance to see how your system under performs. Yes, I should have a $7K camera for this but gosh golly, they just don't spend enough to warrant it.
To be fair Jerry, I don't expect LL to be as thorough in a review as some other sites, especially in the areas I want tested. I think the 7D may be a winner but only time will tell - it also needs time to find out if and where the bugs are.
Dear Canon: (since I'm on a roll here)
I have no need for more pixels and even less need for video. I have turned the 50D down to one set lower on the jpg quality for much of my work. Hey, sports T&I rarely goes above 8x10, but working speed on the computer absolutely did take a hit going to the 50D full files and the 7D will only make that worse. I used to make decent 30x40's with the 10D and the 50D is more than enough pixels for anything I will need.
I find the 50D menu is way too cluttered and it appears the 7D may be even worse. It would be a fabulous thing if I could customize the entire menu on my computer down to one screen that has all the options I need and leave it at that. And no, 3 pre-sets are not enough, please let me make my own screen - drag and drop, then update to camera, done in a few minutes and I'll bless you forever.
Whew - sorry got a bit off topic.
