D30 grip battery priority

The paper that comes with the BG-ED3 battery grip states that the camera will draw current from the battery with the highest voltage. Since I desire to use a battery as much as possible before recharging in order to get maximum performance out of it, I think it would be desireable for Canon to draw from one battery (left or right) and switch to the other battery when the voltage drops very low. that way one could take the drained battery out and put it on the charger while working with the other by itself or insert another fully charged battery.

The way it is currently set up will it pretty much take both batteries down equally so they both require charging at the same time?

I find they recharge pretty fast and you could pull one out and recharge only that.

Re: D30 grip battery priority

Hi, Les:

You're correct that the D30 draws power initially from the battery with the highest voltage when two batteries are used in the BG-ED3 grip. Once the voltages are equalized, the camera draws power from both batteries simultaneously.

Since the BG-ED3 will run the D30 with only one battery installed, you have 2 options: run one battery at a time or purchase a spare set of 2 if you like to run both at once.

Chuck

Haven't seen yu in quite a while. It was your very cooperative spirit in making the DCS1 available tome 4 1/2 years ago that convinced me to buy one and here I am with a D30 and loving it.

I am glad you are participating in this discussion forum and look forward to your in depth input.

Kudos

Re: D30 grip battery priority

Does running two batteries increase the speed of the focus or the ability to write to the card (sort of like using lithiums or nicads in a 1n or 1v makes it more snappy?)

Just wondering.

Re: D30 grip battery priority

Hi, fred:

Other than the increase in shooting capacity, there is no difference in camera performance when two batteries are installed in the grip compared to one.
