My new 50D is more than 1/2 stop overexposing compared to my 2 40D's and they have to match. I can't seem to find a way to make the adjustment on either so that they will match exposure on the same settings when used on Manual. I never use anything but Manual. Yes, I can compensate by adjusting aperture but I want htem all to match a lot closer than 1/2 stop.
Color adjustments are easy but I can't find exposure adjust.
Thanks

Indeed, there is no "exposure compensation" for Manual mode. If you want a different exposure, you are expected just to choose one (with a different aperture and/or shutter speed).
One possibility is for you to set the ISO sensitivity higher on the 50D than the 40D, which will give a lower exposure result on the 50D than you are getting now. You can only set the ISO sensitivity in 1/3 stop steps (and in fact that option - rather than whole stop steps - needs to be chosen in the CFs). But perhaps you need a shift of 2/3 stop.
I suspected there was no adjustment possible in Manual Mode.
I hadn't honestly remembered that I could do it with ISO. Not what I would prefer to do but it's certainly the best option if there is no other and it's at least easier than digging through the menus that differ so much between models.

When I spoke with a technician of a major meter manufacturer (it doesn't matter which one), he indicated that cameras typically vary from camera to camera and meters vary from meter to meter. The meter itself (same brand and model) can vary 1/3 of an ƒ stop. In other words,
Ten Canon 50Ds using one meter would like show some variance.
And,
One Canon 50D using ten different meters of the same brand and model would like show some variance.
It would be great if everything were precise and exact.

I think metering is not the issue here. I think the issue is, for the same ISO sensitivity and same camera exposure (aperture and shutter speed), a difference in exposure result.
Best results,
