EOS-40D and 28-135 Zoom - A Religious Experience

I am just back from a trip to England to kick off my new book, Star Vistas, and while I was there I managed to capture some nice photos. I carried my camera with my in my laptop bag, and given limited space I chose just one lens to bring with me - my trusty Canon 28-135 zoom, which I have had since I bought my very first Canon dSLR, the D30.

The 40D/28-135 combo performed flawlessly - I had the opportunity to photograph Christchurch Priory in Dorset... The 40D's low light performance is simply stunning at ISO 800 and well beyond, and the 28-135 was THE perfect lens for low light handheld photos. I have even been able to make high resolution mosaics from sets of images - all taken handheld in the low ambient light of an old church on a gray, rainy English day...

Here are just a few of the photos I took. Click through these thumbnails to see high resolution images (keep in mind some of these are big files).

My Canon EOS-40D, 28-135, and I get along very well indeed.

-Noel

Re: EOS-40D and 28-135 Zoom - A Religious Experience

I agree with you. And you got some really nice photos.

The 28-135 is my 40D's default lens. I just did a trip out to the Western US. Since we drove I could take my full complement of photo gear - TS, wide angle, tele, lenses, tripods, panorama stuff. And I made sure to keep them on the back seat for easy access.
Except for Aches NP, Moab UT, where I did use my Sigma 17-35 zoom for the wide angle views, the other lenses and gear didn't get used very much.

This was also a family tourist trip, not a photography focused trip. So I was shooting more like a photojournalist, or the old Leica with a 35mm lens prefocused method, capturing the images with what I had. Karate vs. Tai Chi photography.
Doing a National Park Service Artist in Residence program would be a lot different - Site Name - Page Title

I plan to get a 7D and for that I feel that I need the 24-105 to get the best quality from the higher resolution sensor.
