Re: 10D: why so few images in folders?

As I recall the 10D should have 100 images in a folder, regardless of size.

That least, that's what I always used to get and I only shoot large jpg.

Try reformat card in camera & see what happens.

Re: 10D: why so few images in folders?

As I recall; the camera creates a new folder every 100 images. So if you had previously shot up to file number XX38, the first folder would contain file numbers XX39-XX99. then a new folder would be created for file numbers X100-X199, or what ever the last file number is you shot.

my rebel XTI does the same thing, i makes a new folder randomly i dont know what for.. if its per x number of shots or each time i turn the camera on/off.

no professional 1 series cameras do this of mine.

Re: 10D: why so few images in folders?

Hi, Folks:

Early EOS Digital SLRs like the 10D had a limit of 100 images per folder, but the file format in use at the time (called DCF 1.0) also specifies that a new folder must be started whenever the file number rolls over "nn99" where "nn" are the first two digits of the last four characters in the file name. So if the file number stored in the camera's memory is, for instance, IMG_8739, and you insert a new memory card, the camera will create a folder for images IMG_8739 to IMG_8799, and then start a new folder automatically for IMG_8801 up to IMG_8899.

EOS-1 series cameras always had a 9,999 image per folder spec rather than 100, and Canon switched over to a 9,999 image per folder spec on all other EOS Digital SLRs starting with the EOS 30D in 2006.
