u/s Canon 40d

anybody had issues with "error 99" on 40d
mine wont work at all error 99 comes up all the time
tried all the normal fixes
reboot
take battery out and replace whilst switched off/on
replaced lens
replaced cf cards
cant get it to work at all.
Canon have taken it back for a warranty repair , just want to know if
anybody else has had similiar problems so i dont go on recommending it
to others if its got series reliability issues.

Re: u/s Canon 40d

When you say "replaced lens" do you mean you removed the lens and put the same lens back on the camera or you removed the lens and tried a different lens. I have a 40D and haven't had any problems. I love it. However, a friend of mine had the same issue and it turned out to be his lens, not the camera. If you haven't already, try a differnet lens. Also, make sure that your batteries are fully charged.

Re: u/s Canon 40d

I had one err99 since I got mine and I had popped in a non-Canon battery. Nothing since.

Err99 can be from many causes but as noted, is likely a communication error. If not, probably shutter.

Re: u/s Canon 40d

I've got 2 40Ds, a 9 month old one and a month old one. No probs on either and I use non-canon batts, canon batts, canon lenses or lensbaby (I don't own other third party lenses but kenko tubes and tamron 1.4TC work fine)

Re: u/s Canon 40d

I'm sorry to hear of your problem with your body.

I don't have any problem with my 40D and I see no evidence that there's a systemic design error.

I have a lot of different lenses, all Canon brand. All my batteries are Canon brand as well, though at least one is 2+ years old.

Dusting off some old brain cells, I think I remember that 99 is a "catch all" error, meaning "the software detected something's wrong".

For what it's worth I've resisted all temptation to update the firmware in my camera, on the general principle that "if it works don't fix it". I still have 1.0.3.

No problems at all for 9 months with my 40D, Lenny. All Canon lenses now but I have used several third party lenses since I bought it.
