Canon 5D Or 40D For Sports Photography

For sports photography,what would be a better camera,the Canon 5D or the Canon 49D?And why?

What kind of sports, mostly outside or inside?

I've used both and prefer the 40D - just bought another one. I was hoping for the upgrade to the 5D to come along in April, no such luck. If you can swing it, the Nikon D3 is the best IMHO right now.

The 40D shoots faster (fps), focuses better, is good at 3200 ISO if you expose carefully, makes better use of long lenses with the crop factor sensor and I really like the 3 preset channels on the dial, so you can make 1 click and have 3 completely different presets.

Also, much cheaper for the 40D, close to 1/2 in our area.

If it's between the 40d and 5d, probably the 40d is the better choice.

I use a 40d and a MkIIN for sports and there's no comparison between these two. You may be able to find a used MkIIN at a decent price if you look in the right place. If you can get your hands on a used "N" you will be much happier than using the 40d.

That said, it also depends on specifically what you mean by 'sports'. Some sports are faster than others, and a 40d may do you fine for some subjects.
